Snow Removal Policy
At the June 22, 2010 board meeting, ballots were tabulated and it was determined by a majority 2/3 vote (as required by the Homeowners' Association Bylaws) that responsibility of snow removal would be removed from the association and become the responsibility of the individual homeowners.
1. Homeowners are Responsible for their Own Snow Removal
2. Snow Removal from the Streets
3. Mailboxes and Fire Hydrants
4. Ice Removal
1. Homeowners are Responsible for their Own Snow Removal
- As a result of the ballot vote in 2010, snow removal from driveways and sidewalks is now the responsibility of each individual homeowner. Any part of sidewalk bordering and within a property's lot line is the responsibility of that property's owner to remove.
- You may personally remove snow from your driveway and sidewalks, or hire an independent contractor to do it for you.
2. Snow Removal from the Streets
- Manor Township is responsible for plowing the streets.
- The township has asked that homeowners do not park in the street when forecasters are calling for a plow-able snow storm.
- The township will plow our streets curb-to-curb, but only if all parked vehicles are removed from the street before the snowplow arrives.
- The township plow driver will plow the entire cul-de-sac on Acorn Lane (pushing the snow off the snow easement at the back of the cul-de-sac), including all the parking spaces in the center, only if there are no cars parked there when the snowplow arrives to plow the street. If a snow storm is forecast, please park in the driveway, not on the street or in the parking lot in the middle of the cul-de-sac.
- Allowing the snowplow to fully plow the street curb-to-curb (no street-parked vehicles in the way) will result in the maximum amount of available street parking after the snowstorm and street plowing is finished.
- Do not push or throw snow into the street at any time. This is a violation of both Pennsylvania law and township ordinance. Violators can be prosecuted.
3. Mailboxes and Fire Hydrants
- Move vehicles off the street and away from mailboxes and fire hydrants. If vehicles are parked in front of mailboxes and fire hydrants, the township plow driver cannot plow the street in front of them.
- If mailboxes are blocked, the USPS will not deliver mail. If the fire hydrants are blocked, fire trucks will not be able to quickly access them if your house is on fire.
- Residents who share a mailbox or fire hydrant should work together to make sure that their mailboxes and hydrants are cleared of snow.
4. Ice Removal
- Elimination of ice patches from sidewalks is the responsibility of the homeowner.
- Use of Magnesium Chloride 'Ice Melt' products is highly recommended, as it will not destroy your sidewalk concrete.
- Caution!! Do not use salt! (sodium chloride). It is extremely corrosive to concrete sidewalks and may cause irreparable damage. Homeowners are responsible for the replacement cost of a sidewalk bordering their lot should the township determine it must be replaced.
